Makes an attempt by a church elder accused of defiling a 14-year-old woman in Kitengela to supply the sufferer’s household Sh100,000 to drop the case failed on the final minute on Saturday.

The Nation has learnt that negotiations between the sufferer’s family members and the stated church elder, who can also be a driver at Kitengela Superb Gospel Centre and Superb Group of Faculties, entered the second day on April 13, 2024.

 In line with the police report seen by the Nation, the 39-year-old suspect was picked by cops and booked at Kitengela Police Station on April 12, 2024.

The church elder allegedly defiled the woman on April 8, 2024.

When Nation caught up with the sufferer’s household spokesperson at Kitengela Police Station on Saturday afternoon, he defined that the Grade 8 pupil from Busia County had gone to Kitengela city to go to her sister through the April faculty holidays.

The sister, who does menial jobs, despatched the sufferer to the church elder’s home to assist with family chores.

“After washing the garments and cleansing the home, the person advised me he cherished me. He took benefit of me and promised to marry me after I completed my research. I stayed in the home till my sister got here to fetch me within the night,” she stated.

She stated she needed to return residence and proceed her research as she was not able to get married.

On Saturday night, the negotiations ran right into a headwind when the suspect realised that the media had bought wind of their plan.

By 5pm, police had arrested the sufferer’s sister, who had initially been concerned within the ‘negotiations’.

 Isinya Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Manyasi advised the Nation that investigations had been launched and the suspect could be arraigned on Monday.

“The suspect is in custody awaiting arraignment on Monday for defilement. It is incorrect for anybody to attempt to subvert justice, particularly in a case of defilement,” Mr Manyasi stated.
